Fall vocabulary 2

faith :  complete trust or confidence in someone or something

He had faith in his religion.



threshold :  a strip of wood, metal, or stone forming the bottom of a doorway and crossed in entering a house or room


The teacher stood in the threshold staring at his students.


tarry : of, like, or covered with tar


My fish hamburger was all tarry


resolve : settle or find a solution


We ended up resolving the problem.


discern : the ability to judge well


He was able to discern the problem and solve it.


martyr  :a person who is killed because of their religious or other beliefs


They thought back on the martyr and realized the couldn't do that.


mirth  : amusement, especially as expressed in laughter


We looked at him and saw the mirth on his face.


catechism :a summary of the principles of Christian religion in the form of questions and answers, used for the instruction of Christians


I saw the catechism teacher at the store



pious devoutly religious


I didn't answer the pious old man at my door.


frenzy : a state or period of uncontrolled excitement or wild behavior 


Everyone was in a frenzy at lunch
